tHe ME
Well well… I’ve been a netizen for almost half a decade and still haven’t made modifications on my webbie! To start with, allow me to talk about myself. I am Ronald Bonus Mercado. Forget about my middle name. So many people have already made fun of that. But its rather cute, isn’t it? My friends call me a lot of names! ‘Onald, Nald, Ron, Ron-ron, Ronee, Rondz, Bonus, Ronz… But I prefer Rondz. It’s quite unique you know.. A simple description would be a friendly and funny person. Many people say that I am a snob! Well, that’s a common impression. Mind you, I make a lot of friends here on the internet. Some of my netizen friends say that I’m really funny and crazy. Well, that’s just the half of my personality. I do have a serious and emotional side. I am a loner. I am a home buddy. Sometimes when I have time to go out, I go on my own. I watch movies. I shop. I listen to new albums of r&b and alternative.
Understanding ME is really a hard and meticulous process. Even though I hate to admit it, sometimes I do not know who I am. Right now, I’m a senior accountancy major at De La Salle University. While I’m hanging out at school you can really see my smiling, joking, and laughing out loud. But when I go home, I feel all alone once again. That is why I love so much to connect to the internet. I like to express myself there. Online forums, chatting, downloading… So many things you can do nowadays over the internet.
Way way back in high school… I was very studious. I don’t know if I still have a LIFE. My so-called LIFE revolves in studying, studying, and studying. Maybe that’s the reason I earned the First Honorable Mention. It was really shameful to think that I’ve been spending those days purely on academics. Where in fact I could have explored more of myself and be socially active. Maybe that’s part of my life that I regret the most. It’s ironic how I feel so lonely after getting an honor? But what the heck, I did make my parents proud!
Talking about love and all is like taking about the universe before it was created. I mean it’s just like a vast empty space and very dark. I do fall in love but never entered relationships at all. Maybe to some girls I became close you can call it a mutual understanding. But hey, no formalities of a relationship so I don’t have to call it a relationship. Maybe it’s just me. I am stupid and coward. I don’t have the balls to court them. That’s another thing I regret the most. Getting out of the complexities, maybe it’s just the way I am. Maybe I am longing for something else…
Movies have always been part of my life. A week never ends without me watching at least 3 movies. For once, I did try to have a movie marathon, watching 3 consecutive films mostly art films. In which I ended up very dizzy… I devour so many films that talk about life. Films like Life or Something Like It, American Beauty, and With Honors, to name a few are my favorite ones because they do know how to make the complexities of life a little bit easier to live. I also go for forensic, detective style of movies. Politics, war, and action movies are also one of the genres that I really like. Murder with Numbers, The Score, and Behind Enemy Lines are the cherries on top of my movie flavor.
I also love reading. I appreciate different kind of novels ranging from vampire chronicles of Anne Rice to life-touching bestseller, Tuesdays with Morrie. The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo is one of the most inspiring fictions that I have read. And it still doesn’t fail to inspire me on achieving my most precious dreams.
Talking about dreams, I yearn to become a Certified Public Accountant. I also want to have a Masteral Degree on Business Administration. My frustration in life includes having a degree in a computer related course. A few years from now, I see myself as being employed on SGV & Co. as an audit staff. I also see myself teaching at my alma mater (DLSU). I dunno? I really love to teach. Way back in high school, I would teach my classmates basic statistics and some accounting subjects. I really enjoy it. Another dream is to become a Comptroller in a very competent company. If not, I envision myself as having my own business. Does Rondz Enterprise sound great? Hehehe …
Hmm… What else do I wanna talk about?! Ah… more of my frustrations… I am a frustrated writer who do not know how to write majestically. In fact, I am starting an online book entitled “Journey to Rondz”. I haven’t finished it just yet. But I am working on it somehow. Remind me to give you a copy someday?! Hehehe… Another frustration (rondz looking at his endless list of frustrations) is to be a singer. Yah know I love music so much that I eventually sing even if I’m creating havoc. Well, God didn’t give me a golden voice. Tsk tsk tsk… But if I was able to sing magnificently, then you’ll probably see me in Quiapo singing “All by myself”… ?
To end this rather long essay, let me say that life is rather too short to experience the inner beauty of it. Explore your senses and savor the astonishing beauty of this God-given-life. You may never know when it would end. Live your life to the fullest. Embrace the beauty that is around you. And let’s contribute to the peace that we all endeavor.

How should I start this? My first ever experience of the world wide web was already late. Actually that was almost half a decade when I was still a froshie college student. We have this subject called Compac1 wherein our classroom is located at a computer laboratory. Good thing the professor is always late so we have the freedom to explore the computer. My seatmate Zasha is browsing through the internet. Of course, if you’re just new in this kinda stuff you wouldn’t really know where to go. You do not even know any location of websites. Luckily she helped me create my very first email address, ronald666@mailcity.com. I know what you’re thinking back there. I am not a member of any cult nor am I satanic? I am just enamored with this kinda things. I love to be unique. After that, I saw her browsing at yahoo.com. At that time I already explored the site, getting information for my assignment.
Let’s go a lil bit further… I began browsing through different sites. My bestfriend, Karla, also introduced to me pinoyexchange.com. That is the first ever forum that I’ve joined. At first, I really don’t know how it works. I even had my whole name as my handle. How weird can one get? Anyhow, I didn’t appreciate much of that thingy. Then again, Karla referred me to rebelde.com and that’s how the story started.
Rebelde.com became my sanctuary. It’s the place where I feel the comfort of my home. I began befriending people from the site. Although I have not yet unleashed my full potential, I became known to them as scrappydog. The so-called-nephew of Uncle Scoob. It was really fun! As months pass, I begin to realize that I’m way-way below the ratings of Karla (red_d00r8) in terms of postings. So that is when I had this goal of posting so much. For your information, the site has a promo of 10 pesos per post. So it was also my motivational factor. Unfortunately, I was only considered for 5 pesos per post. It was also the boiling factor why I increased my posting rate. I was suddenly promoted as Gold Member, then Platinum Member. They even offered me to become a Moderator for a particular forum. I was actually reluctant in accepting the offer since I was still studying and I don’t want to have any commitments that I can’t meet. But they still made me one. It was actually a blessing. Since then, I was popularly known as “The #1 Poster of Rebelde.com”. Currently, I am an Executive Moderator having 12,000+ postings.
My addiction to the internet world has gone down since I began to realize that my grades are falling. I would not compensate my grades for such things. So I began to lay-low. I even got a little carried away with my emotions and it’s hard for me to conquer this withdrawal incessantly.
Another contribution to this addiction was of course, chatting! I have never been so much enamored with this kind of technology. It was really way to cool to communicate through instant messages to people around the world. Downloading programs, games, pictures, videos, and of course, MP3s became part of my Internet life. I began spend on countless prepaid cards just to meet the addiction. My allowance went to this crazy obsessiveness
with the internet.
But now, I have been wondering how I became so much addicted to it. Although I do not regret any bit of actions I have done, I have gained so many friends and so many information that is beyond the money I spent. And still, I am proud to become a 5-year old netizen!
